A veneer is a thin, translucent shell made of porcelain or ceramic that is attached to the front teeth to hide defects like cracks and fractures. Veneers are custom-designed to match the shade, shape, and size of the tooth surrounding it.
Dental veneers are often used for treating structural problems in the teeth and smile - top of teeth, to close the gaps, align the length of the teeth, deep staining/discoloration, and hence create a beautiful smile. To fix things that bug your smile, contact us today to learn more about porcelain veneers.
The procedure is minimally invasive and can be completed in 2 visits. When you visit our Elmwood Dental office, our dentist will examine your teeth to determine if veneers are right for you. Then it requires taking an impression of your teeth along with gums and the neighboring teeth. The dentist will work on matching the size, shape, and shade of the tooth.
You will have to wait for about two weeks for your custom-made veneers to get ready. In the meantime, a temporary veneer can be used. Once your porcelain veneer is ready, the dentist will put it in place to check the accuracy. The veneers will be put in your mouth several times, and even trimmed until it fits perfectly. To ensure you are having any discomfort with the new veneers, you will be asked to bite, close, and close your mouth.
The dentist at Elmwood Dental will continue to bond dental veneer and tooth. The surfaces of the tooth and the veneers will be polished and an acid gel is etched into the tooth surface for a few seconds. This etching process helps in bonding the veneers to your natural tooth and the gel is washed off. To tighten the bond a bonding agent is placed on the veneer. The color shade of the veneer is squished inside the veneer and blue light is passed for a few minutes to finalize the bonding process.
